Musselburgh Grammar School
Musselburgh Grammar have commitment again to the Sports Leaders program offered by the British Sport Trust. The course enables young pupils from the age of 14 to have the opportunity to learn all aspects of Sports Leadership. Last academic year 25 S3 pupils undertook the course. This year the school hopes to run two programs before and after the Christmas Break in addition to offering a more advanced programme aimed at Senior Pupils called the Community Sports Leaders Course.

Also the school will be undertaking a Health and Fitness Week on the week beginning Monday 2nd October. The purpose of the week is to assess the health and fitness capabilities of all S1 pupils and introduce pupils to a new Sports, Health and Physical Activities Planner. Pupils will undergo a range of tests, subject to a sensitive screening process including bleep tests, Body Fat Index and Heart Rate responces to moderate exercises. The planner will allow each pupil to record units of exercise for each day, after-schools sports clubs attended and 5 a day fruit portions. This is a pilot for S1 only.

North Berwick High School
North Berwick are in the process of re-appointing their sports Coordinator. However the school's extensive extra-curriculum program is underway and both the Rugby and Hockey teams are looking forward to another successful year.
Knox Academy
Scottish Cup fever has been in evidence at Knox of late with mammoth journeys for the senior boys basketball and rugby highlighting the nature of National competitions! The Senior rugby team played against Culloden Academy on Thursday 9th November and after an early start and a lengthy journey, came away with a 34 -nil victory. Although travelling support was limited, a flying visit from the Basketball team en route to Ullapool for their ferry was gratefully received as they cheered the team on before continuing their own journey. Stornoway was the eventual destination for the basketball boys, and after a relatively calm trip over they played the Nicolson Institute the following morning after an overnight stay in the local Youth Hostel. Another great result ensued with a 64-34 win for Knox. This was followed by a mad dash to board the return ferry (an earlier sailing than scheduled due to high winds) but they made it home safely and await the draw for the next round. Many thanks to the school staff, parents and of course the players themselves who allowed these games to take place.
Preston Lodge
Preston Lodge High School appointed a new Sport & Physical Activity Coordinator prior to the summer break. Since being appointed he has been getting to know the school and the pupils in which he will be working with. Since the pupils have returned, there has been several clubs set up to cater for all different sporting interests. These clubs include Rugby, Hockey, Football, Badminton, Muay Thai Boxing and Basketball. Addditionally the schools sporting teams have began their league fixtures on a saturday morning and occassionally after school. A lunchtime football league ranging form S1-S6 has just been launched and proved extremely successful amoungst pupils. Ideas for the future- With some additional planning Preston Lodge hopes to introduce more clubs to the school. These include a hip-hop dance themes club, Volleyball and American football. Later on in the school calender, the school plans to have an awards ceremony in the style of a sports personality night. This will allow recognition of those who have contributed to after school clubs and achieved success both as a team and individually.
